DNA Casts Doubt on Hitler Suicide Story

Posted on 20:28 by makhya nitni
AOL News

(Sept. 28) - New DNA tests show that a skull long thought to be Adolf Hitler's is not his after all. Scientists at the University of Connecticut conducted tests on the bullet-pierced skull -- which had been secretly preserved for decades by Soviet intelligence -- and discovered that it belonged to an unidentified woman under 40, the British newspaper The Guardian reported Sunday.

The results cast doubt on the long-held account that the Nazi dictator swallowed a cyanide pill and then committed suicide in his Berlin bunker as Allied forces were closing in on him in 1945. The story of the testing was also reported in a History Channel documentary, "Hitler's Escape."

University of Connecticut archaeologist and bone specialist Nick Bellantoni knew from the outset that something was amiss. "The bone seemed very thin; male bone tends to be more robust," he said. "And the sutures where the skull plates come together seemed to correspond to someone under 40." Hitler had turned 56 in 1945.

Bellantoni had flown to Moscow to inspect the skull and was given one hour to take DNA samples. The testing was conducted in Connecticut.

According to the Guardian, the skull fragment was the only positive physical proof that Hitler had shot himself. So who does the skull belong to?

According to witnesses, Hitler committed suicide with his mistress Eva Braun. Their bodies were then wrapped in blankets and carried to a bomb crater outside the Berlin bunker, doused with gas and set on fire. But Bellantoni doesn't think the skull belongs to her.

"There is no report of Eva Braun having shot herself or having been shot afterwards. It could be anyone. Many people were killed around the bunker area," he said.

U|K: The Nazi Whitewash

I can't believe Eric Pickles supports Latvia's 'For Fatherland and Freedom' party, which wants to rewrite a murderous history

Efraim Zuroff

28 September 2009

The sight of SS veterans marching down the main avenue of the capital city of a member of Nato and the European Union is hardly a sight to bring joy to the heart of a British political leader. Yet just a few days ago, Conservative chairman Eric Pickles saw fit in an interview on Radio 4 to rush to the defence of the Latvian "For Fatherland and Freedom" party which is among the staunchest supporters of precisely such an event that takes place annually in Riga every 16 March.

The simple explanation is the hackneyed cliche that politics makes strange bedfellows, and that Pickles felt obliged to defend his new partners in the European Conservatives and Reformists group of the European parliament in Strasbourg. In reality, however, Pickles's knee-jerk response is probably the product of sheer ignorance of the world-view of his Latvian political allies and their distorted perceptions of the history of the second world war, which no mainstream British political leader could possibly support.

The controversy over the annual march of the Latvian-SS Legion veterans in Riga has been raging since Latvia regained independence in 1991. Its supporters claim that the men in the Legion were soldiers who only fought against the Soviets and had no connection to SS crimes. They viewed their service as helping to defend Latvia and did so for positive patriotic reasons and not out of loyalty to Nazi Germany. Yet while it is true that the Legion as such did not participate in Holocaust crimes, many of its men were active participants in the mass murder of Jews before the Legion was established in early1943. By this point, practically all of Latvia's 70,000 Jews, as well as most of the approximately 20,000 Central European Jews deported to Riga and many tens of thousands of Jews in Belarus, had been murdered by members of Latvian security police units, many of whom subsequently volunteered to join the Legion, among them numerous men from the infamous Arajs Kommando, one of the most notorious Nazi death squads.

As far as the motives of those joining the Legion, a third volunteered (the rest were drafted) to fight for a victory of Nazi Germany and its totalitarian regime, which would have had unimaginably horrific consequences for the future of Europe. And while these Latvians might have thought that they were fighting for Latvian independence, their German masters had no such intentions, making their service on their behalf even more reprehensible.

The obsession of "For Fatherland and Freedom" to pay public homage to the Latvian-SS Legion in contradiction to all historical logic and sensitivity to Nazi crimes is not a product of ostensibly harmless nostalgia as Pickles would have us believe, but part of a rather insidious plan to gain recognition for a perversely distorted version of European history which will officially equate Communism with Nazism. In practical terms, this will transform those eastern European nations that had a high percentage of Nazi collaborators from perpetrator-helpers of a genuine genocide to victims of a tragedy posing as a genocide. It will also help them cover up their role in Holocaust crimes and failure since independence to prosecute their own Nazi war criminals.

The manifesto of this movement, the Prague Declaration of June 2008, warns that "Europe will not be united unless it is able to reunite its history [and] recognise communism and Nazism as a common legacy". Resolutions in this spirit which call for a joint commemoration day (23 August) for the victims of Communism and Nazism are only the beginning of a campaign to rewrite the history of the second world war in a way that will whitewash the villains, dishonour the victims, and rob the heroes of their well-deserved pride.

Eric Pickles

I cannot believe that Pickles and the Conservative party really support such nonsense.

Seroquel Diabetes Side-Effects Kept from U.S. Doctors

Posted on 18:14 by makhya nitni

September 23rd, 2009

Internal documents from AstraZeneca suggest that the pharmaceutical giant did not tell doctors in the United States about Seroquel diabetes side effects, even after it admitted to doctors in Japan that there was likely a connection between the antipsychotic drug and increased risk of diabetes in users.

The documents were released after Bloomberg News filed a motion to gain access to sealed records produced as part of ongoing litigation for thousands of Seroquel lawsuits filed against AstraZeneca. The litigation involves claims that AstraZeneca failed to adequately warn users about potential Seroquel side effects that may increase the risk of diabetes, weight gain, hyperglycemia and a rare movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia.

According to a report by Bloomberg News, the documents contain evidence that an AstraZeneca saleswoman told a U.S. doctor that there was no link between Seroquel and diabetes in 2006, even though the company had already acknowledged to Japanese doctors that a relationship between Seroquel and diabetes “could not be ruled out” as early as 2002.

Seroquel (quetiapine fumarate) is an atypical-antipsychotic that is a top selling drug for AstraZeneca, generating nearly $5 billion a year in sales. Approved by the FDA in 1997 for the treatment of schizophrenia, it is also commonly used off-label for treatment of anxiety, obsessive dementia, compulsive disorders and autism. Seroquel has been used by more than 19 million people worldwide.

Nearly 20,000 people have filed a lawsuit for Seroquel problems, with all federal cases consolidated for pretrial litigation in an MDL, or multidistrict litigation, that is centralized in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Plaintiffs argue that AstraZeneca actively denied any diabetes risk with Seroquel when asked by U.S. doctors, even though they had already acknowledged that there was a possible connection.

The unsealed documents also show that AstraZeneca found ways to pay and reward doctors who pushed Seroquel to their patients and increased prescriptions for the blockbuster medication. The Bloomberg News report indicates that the drug company paid doctors $750 to $1,500 for speaking engagements promoting Seroquel, and paid for them to have dinner at upscale restaurants. Some doctors even complained that they were not being paid enough and asked for more perks based on the amount of Seroquel prescriptions they had made, according to internal documents. The doctors’ names were withheld as part of the court order unsealing the records.

Earlier this year, two of the first cases set for trial in the federal MDL were dismissed after the court determined that those plaintiffs could not establish that their diabetes was caused by Seroquel under Florida law. The first trial for a Seroquel lawsuit is now scheduled to occur in Missouri state court in October 2009.

Poll: Republicans Support Government Health Care

Posted on 17:29 by makhya nitni
Believe it or not, most Republicans's polled hanker for "socialism" ... while their leaders spam the media with disingenuous froth, and 45,000 people a year go to their graves because they can't afford proper health care. Where, I ask, is the "intelligent design" in politics? Has there ever been a political party as asinine as these programmed, McCarthyite, hypocritical Republicans, gay or not? - AC

September 28, 2009

The new CBS/New York Times poll not only shows overwhelming support for the public option -- including a plurality of self-identified Republicans. The poll asked this question: "Would you favor or oppose the government offering everyone a government administered health insurance plan -- something like the Medicare coverage that people 65 and older get -- that would compete with private health insurance plans?" The top-line result is 65% in favor, 26% opposed. Among Democrats only, it's 81%-12%, and independents are at 61%-30%. And among Republican respondents, 47% are in favor, to 42% opposed. - Drudge Report

FBI Payout for Egyptian over 9/11

Posted on 17:09 by makhya nitni
BBC
25 September 2009

An Egyptian man has received a $250,000 payout from the FBI because of the way he was treated following the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks.

Abdallah Higazy, 38, sued the bureau, saying he had been unjustly criminally charged and imprisoned for 34 days. He had been accused of lying to investigators about an aviation radio found in his hotel room in New York. Mr Higazy said he told conflicting stories about the radio because he had been intimidated by an FBI agent. He asserted that the agent shouted at him, lied to him and threatened to endanger his family.

A judge approved the settlement payment in July 2009.

Mr Higazy was studying at the Polytechnic University in Brooklyn on a US government-funded scholarship and staying at the Millennium Hilton Hotel near the Twin Towers. He was detained in December 2001 when he returned to reclaim his belongings from the hotel which he had left when the hotel was evacuated during the attacks.

'Traumatic memory'

Mr Higazy had acknowledged in court that he had served in the Egyptian Air Corps and had expertise in communications. The aviation radio found at the hotel could be used to communicate with planes and monitor pilot conversations. He was freed in January 2002 after another hotel guest, a pilot, told hotel officials the radio belonged to him.

Mr Higazy's lawsuit against the FBI agent that questioned him was initially thrown out by a lower court judge but was reinstated in 2007 by the Court of Appeals in Manhattan. When he was released he married an American and returned to Egypt, where he lives in Cairo and works at a school, according to his lawyer Jonathan Abady.

"He was entirely innocent and was coerced to the point where he confessed to participation in the crime of the century. Had the pilot not returned to retrieve the radio, he [Higazy] might still be in prison," Mr Abady said.

He said that Mr Higazy was pleased to put the ordeal behind him but that the ordeal was a "traumatic memory that will never leave him completely".

An admission of liability or fault was not part of the FBI agreement.

US government lawyers on the case have declined to comment.

Clueless Reporter: "Bill Clinton Says 'Vast Right Wing Conspiracy' Still Exists"

Politics Daily

Pasty, overpaid Bruce Drake cut his teeth at the New York Daily News, covering Congress and the Reagan White House. He moved on to National Public Radio in 1991 and the position of senior Washington editor and subsequently managing editor for seven years and vice president of news for five years. He was hired by Congressional Quarterly in 2007 to create the free content website, CQ Politics, and also served CQ before he left as executive editor for news.

"It's not really good for the Republicans and the country, what's going on now. I mean, they may be hurting President Obama. They can take his numbers down, they can run his opposition up," Clinton said. ... "

The far-right took over in Germany, and we saw the results. The far-right took over in America, and we saw the results - kidnappings ("rendition"), secret camps, secret trials, torture, political assassinations, mass surveillance, continuous, racist right-wing propaganda ...

Yes, the fascist "conspiracy" definitely goes on - in part because the press is a part of it, just as propaganda, most of it corporate, accounted for about 40 percent of the Nazi Party's activites - and only a "mainstream" reporter/media filter/NPR donut head would consider this transparent truth to be a matter of opinion.

Fascism is Inherently Conspiratorial - Response to Shallow, Status Quo Reporter at the Dallas Observer who Considers Me a "Conspiracy Theorist"

Conspiracy Theorist Links Dallas County GOP Chair and Fountain Place Bomb Plot
By Sam Merten
Dallas Observer
Sep. 28 2009

After the FBI busted Hosam Maher Husein Smadi last week for trying to blow up Fountain Place, Dallas County Republican Party chair (and the Observer's 2009 Best Politico) Jonathan Neerman found himself the victim of a pretty sick joke. Seems as though his GOP and CIA ties made it too easy to paint him as Smadi's target, but Neerman, being a laidback guy, took it well. (Neerman is a lawyer at Hunton & Williams, which offices at Fountain Place.)

But the latest association between Neerman and Smadi goes way beyond a simple piece of paper taped to an office door. Conspiracy theorist Alex Constantine uses our photos and excerpts [briefly, plus numerous others] from our December 2008 cover story to link Neerman to Smadi's plot [not so - I didn't link Neerman to Smadi in any way, though he hails from the CIA and I suppose it's possible - here is the research] to blow up the skyscraper:

"The CIA's Jonathan Neerman (left) works for Dallas' Hunton & Williams, a criminal enclave of a law firm embroiled in a number of Republican scandals including Enron's collapse and the CIA torture debacle. As it happens, Neerman is on the outs among local GOP leaders for trying to revive the Party by recruiting (duping, IMhO, "reaching out to") minorities, like himself (he's a Hispanic Jew) - even homosexuals - and easing up on traditional hard-nosed Republican social positions. Old Guard Republicans vow to fight Neerman to the bitter end ... then an accused Middle Eastern terrorist pulls up to the building where Neerman practices law, loaded, unbeknownst to him, with dummy explosives, gratis the FBI. I've provided a number of leads to track. Anyone making headway on this case is urged to send me research for posting (mainly because I'm anxious to know more about this case)."

He also finds a way to toss in the owners of Fountain Place and cocaine into the conspiracy. Geez, and we thought Schutze was paranoid.

Alex Constantine responds (Observer comments section):

I am not, and never have been, a "conspiracy theorist." Like the word "nigger," the term is a pejorative used to dismiss and discredit and marginalize.

I operate like any other researcher or reporter. The posting is more factual than reports generated by yourself because they are informed of facts that you simply refuse to confront, eg. Republican billionaire Richard Rainwater's unquestionable place in the life of GW Bush and involvement in CIA cocaine smugging. You simply rely on your establisment programming and refuse to look at these facts, believing yourself above them. (That's what perception management looks like.)

That is why I am a much better reporter than you will ever be, you establishmnent-programmed asshole (you started the name-calling). Your shallow reporting amounts to cover-up of critical facts, and that means you are a coward incapable of thinking for himself. Let Fox News continue to do your thinking for you, because you can't do it without a mind control crutch to adhere to the fascist status quo.

- Alex Constantine

The `Village Voice' Alternative Media Monopoly's Hidden History--Parts 1 & 2
By Bob Feldman
http://www.bfeldman68.blogspot.com/

(Most of the following article originally appeared in the October 9, 1996 issue of Downtown/Aquarian Weekly)

“The Village Voice became not something there because of the need for it, to give a voice to voiceless people, but a prize of booty on the battlefield of venture capitalism, something to be looked at and fought over, put into the portfolio of a corporation, used by one individual on the make after another. As of 1977, it had become part of a super-empire…” --Kevin McAuliffe in The Great American Newspaper: The Rise and Fall of the `Village Voice’ in 1978

Denver’s “alternative” weekly newspaper, the Denver Westword, may not be publicizing on a regular basis the current efforts of local antiwar activists to protest against the Democratic Party-controlled Congress’s failure to end the U.S. military occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and impeach Bush and Cheney, by mobilizing antiwar Denver residents to demonstrate outside the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

One reason might be because the Denver Westword is owned by the Phoenix-based Village Voice/New Times “alternative” weekly newspaper chain that also owns the Village Voice, the LA Weekly, the Seattle Weekly, the San Francisco Weekly, the Minneapolis City Pages, the Phoenix New Times, the Dallas Observer, the Orange County Weekly, the Houston Press, the Cleveland Scene, the Nashville Scene, the St. Louis Riverfront Times, the Broward-Palm Beach New Times, the Miami New Times and the Kansas City Patch. In fact, the free circulation of the “alternative” weekly newspapers which the Denver Westword 's out-of-state parent company owns represents 25 percent of the free weekly circulation of all U.S. “alternative” weekly newspapers.

But prior to the 2005 merger between the Wall Street bankers who had purchased the Village Voice from former Voice owner Leonard Stern for $170 million in 2000 and New Times media company owner Michael Lacey, the Voice was also not controlled by its original owners. For--like current Voice/Westword owner Michael Lacey--the Wall Street bankers, former Voice owner Leonard Stern and former Voice owner Rupert Murdoch did not provide the initial money or initial labor that was needed to launch the Village Voice on October 26, 1955. The Voice was actually started by Dan Wolf, Ed Fancher and Norman Mailer—using money from Mailer’s bank account and from Fancher’s inheritance.

(Downtown/Aquarian Weekly 10/9/96)

PART 2

(Most of the following article originally appeared in the October 9, 1996 issue of Downtown/Aquarian Weekly.)

Voice co-founder Wolf was the husband of a social worker. After his involvement in the world of Manhattan alternative journalism enabled him to become a millionaire by the early 1970s, Wolf turned neoconservative and eventually moved into a City Hall office in 1977 to be an aide and close adviser to then-New York City Mayor Ed Koch.

Voice co-founder Fancher was a Lake Placid, New York prep school graduate who had become a Manhattan doctor. He had also inherited $30,000 (in 1950s money) worth of Orange County Telephone Company stock from his grandfather.

Fancher used part of his inherited utility company stock to come up with the $5,000 that he initially contributed to launch the Voice. [Now-deceased] Best-selling Novelist Mailer also put up $5,000. In exchange for his $5,000 investment, Mailer and his lawyer received 40 percent of the Voice’s stock. In exchange for his $5,000 investment, Fancher and his close friend, Dan Wolf, received 60 percent of the Voice’s stock.

The idea of naming their Manhattan alternative newspaper, “The Village Voice,” however, was apparently not thought up by either Mailer, Wolf or Fancher, but by a woman named Patricia Woods, who worked as an English teacher during the 1950s. Wolf took the title of Voice editor-in-chief, but a hip guy named John Wilcock was named the Voice’s first news editor. Other editorial employees initially included Florence Ellerbert and Jerry Tallmer, who was a former editor of Dartmouth College’s student newspaper. Although Wolf was approaching his 40th birthday when the Voice was first published, “in the first issue he would lie and say he was only 33,” according to The Great American Newspaper: The Rise and Fall of the `Village Voice’ by Kevin McAuliffe.

Before the 1962 newspaper strike by local union people shut down all of Manhattan’s daily major newspapers for 114 days, the Voice was not much of a success, financially. In 1955, it only had a circulation of about 3,000, sold for 5 cents and lost up to $1,000 a week in 1950s money. It didn’t publish many classified ads, though, in those days and, therefore, consisted of only 12 pages.

To keep the Voice from going bankrupt in 1956, Mailer had to pour in about $10,000 more from his literary profits and Fancher had to shovel in another $10,000 from his utility company stock inheritance. But the Voice still had difficulty making money until the 1962 newspaper strike. Between October 1955 and the start of this strike, about $60,000 was lost by the then-alternative newspaper and then-Voice editor-in-chief Wolf had to be “supported by the income brought in by his wife, Rhoda, a social worker,” according to The Great American Newspaper: The Rise and Fall of the `Village Voice’. The Voice’s circulation, though, had risen to about 17,000 on the eve of the big Manhattan daily newspaper strike.
